Low and Lower is:
More fun than just classical
More serious than just comedy
More virtuosic than the instrumentation suggests
More hip than their training prepared them to be
Bassist Paul Sharpe and Cellist Brooks Whitehouse, both classically trained concert artists, step artfully in and out of the traditional roles of their instrumentation (and the standards of concert etiquette) to bring you concerts you will never forget.
We are indeed fortunate to have Paul Sharpe, Bassist and Brooks Whitehouse, Cellist, performing in our area on January 28, 2012. Some of you may remember Paul Sharpe’s appearance here in January 2010, when he performed a recital of solo bass and bass-piano music at Christ Lutheran Church.
Paul is a native of Alaska, having grown up in Anchorage and learned bass in public school, performing in the Anchorage Youth Symphony, and being a part of the Alaskan scene ever since, as he returns each summer to teach and perform as part of the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival. He also performs quite frequently with the Anchorage Symphony and Anchorage Youth Symphony, traveling from Texas, North Carolina, or wherever he is working, to continue to share his music with his home state. His parents, Joy and Jon Sharpe, reside in Anchorage, where Joy has been a string teacher and violinist for many years. Jon has narrated a public radio classical music program.
Paul’s credentials are impeccable, with many international awards and competitions as well as performances and teaching all over the world. A very accessible musician with an ability to make music fun and enjoyable to all ages, he loves to perform for young people and include them in his audience.
