Chugach Brass *
A chance to explore the variety of music written for brass instruments, with UAA professors Linn Weeda, trumpet; Christopher Sweeney, trombone; Cheryl Pierce, French horn; Dean Epperson, piano accompaniment.
The Performing Arts Society is proud to present Alaska’s own Chugach Brass, a group that includes Christopher Sweeney on the trombone, Linn Weeda on the trumpet, Cheryl Pierce on the French horn, and Dean Epperson on the Piano. This brass musicale will provide you with a night of widely varied music that both old and young will find heartwarming and soulful.
This group of wonderful musicians takes their name from the Chugach (‘sugpiaq’) tribe from Alaska’s Prince William Sound. The performers are not only musicians, but also teachers at the University of Alaska Anchorage. They also perform with the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra.
Linn Weeda is also the music director of the Anchorage Youth Symphony and has a M.M. degree from Boston University. Cheryl Pierce also has a M.M., albeit from Temple University. She served in the U.S. Air Force where she played the French horn. Christopher Sweeney earned his M.M. as well as a PHD in musical education and currently holds the title of Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Dean Epperson, who was honored in 2005 for distinguished service to music teaching, has also performed with the Anchorage Chamber Symphony and the Kenai Peninsula Orchestra.
