Classical and Jazz Music on the Kenai Peninsula

Chic Gamine *

The Performing Arts Society is pleased to present Chic Gamine. Chic Gamine is a vocal quintet based out of Winnipeg/Montreal who began in 2007. They are described as being “impishly charming” while bringing their audiences harmonies that will speak to their souls. The quartet consists of singers Ariane Jean, Andrina Turenne, Alexa Dirks, and Annick Bremault, and drummer Sacha Daoud.

Ariane Jean is a woman whose easy laugh and laid back approach to life gives her the ability to bring warmth to her music. She plays the glockenspiel and her gold colored guitar with heart and soul bringing her music to life.

Andrina Turenne has been performing since childhood. She taught herself to play the guitar and fell in love with soul music while in Mexico and Louisiana. She describes her greatest reward as standing in front of an audience.

Alexa Dirks began as a backup vocalist at the age of 17. She works with some of the most respected musicians in Winnipeg and her powerful voice and instinctive songwriting skills makes her a perfect addition to Chic Gamine.

Annick Bremault’s true love is music. She was born into a family of musicians in the French Quarter of Winnipeg where she began blowing kisses to the audience at the age of four. She is a trained dancer and has a particular love for Brazil.

Sacha Daoud, the drummer of Chic Gamine, is a former student of McGill University and the University of Montreal. His Syrian/Brazilian heritage gives him intense creativity, feel, and emotion. His talents also include composing and producing music for film, TV, and animation.

Chic Gamine has performed in various locations around North America including the California Strawberry Festival, the California World Fest, and The Festival at Sandpoint, Idaho where they opened for legendary Smokey Robinson. Their music includes Gospel, Soul, R’n’B, 50’s Doo-Wop, Brazilian forro, and French Chanson. Their awards include nominations for the Canadian Folk Music Award, the Western Canadian Music Award, and the 2009 Juno award for Best Roots/Traditional Album of the Year.
